PDMark technology can be used anywhere where hard copy documents are to be processed electronically and where its main attributes can be utilized, i.e. protection of the document’s contents and improving the efficiency if its processing.

Frauds in health insurance belong to serious and increasing criminal phenomena. In May 2002 National Health Care Anti-Fraud Association announced that in 2001 health insurance companies had together detected or prevented fraud payments in the amount of almost 356 millions of US dollars. In any case 90% of losses remain undetected despite the efforts of insurance companies.

Besides financial losses, forging certificates often results in moral losses and losses of reputation as well. A common way of forging certificates is a modification of the expiration date. The incentive is to save fees for renewing the certificate and avoid costs of certifying compliance (safety regulations, mandatory maintenance, pollution assessment, etc.)

In managerial practice one quite often needs to sign a big number of documents as for example work contracts. Signing hundreds of documents is a very tedious task. Despite this many managers undergo it every day. A solution in the form of a qualified electronic signature has appeared. However, this does not address cases when one party is a representative of a company, who may have an electronic signature, and the other party is an employee or another individual, who usually does not posses an electronic signature. A solution could be to combine an electronic signature with a traditional signature directly on a hard copy document.

Despite proceeding deployment of information technologies a number of paper documents are still being used in logistics. Their processing is lengthy, costly and brings along the problem of errors. Even the worse, it brings along the problem of relatively easy forging.

The problem with the authenticity of documents lies in the fact that a notary only guarantees the authenticity of the signature and the copy of a document. The authenticity and integrity of the contents of the document are not addressed. A common requirement is reduction of expenses when the same authorized document is to be used repeatedly and its efficient automatic processing and import into an electronic system.

Import/export/transit forms are often forged in communication with the customs and tax administration. Losses in the European Union resulting from this type of fraud amount to billions of Euro each year.

Extensive criminal activities, frauds in connection with illegal immigration and fake visa or identification documents are a well known problem. Government security agencies in the whole world seek efficient and secure solutions.
