One of the main usages of PDMark technology is protection of the contents of documents against modification, i.e. forging. We know many methods how to protect a hard copy document against copying (protection of banknotes, holograms). However, there are very few possibilities to protect the contents itself in order to guarantee that any modification will be detected. PDMark is a unique technology, whose main contribution is the possibility to detect later modification of the original printed – visible data with 100% certainty.

As the original data is stored in the background of the document in a digital form, this data can be read back into a computer at any time and subsequently compared with the data printed on the document. In this way any modification of the original contents can be detected.

PDMark allows one to verify whether the original contents have been modified in an automatic mode as well without any need for human intervention. The evaluation itself can be carried out by software. In such a case no human visual check is required.

The basic feature of PDMark is the ability to store arbitrary digital data on paper. Regardless of the form of the data, which can be in the form of files (for example .doc, .pdf, .jpg, .xml …) or any other form, the data is always stored in the form of tiny symbols directly in the document. Of course, the data can be subsequently read back into a computer directly in a digital form. Paper serves as a medium for storage of digital data and at the same time retains its original function.

As data is stored on paper in a digital form, it can be subjected to all existing data security and cryptographic methods and procedures. For example, data can be individually encrypted, electronically signed, or processed by a comprehensive security system.

In the process of reading back the data into an electronic form any need for complex optical character recognition is eliminated. The process of reading itself is very fast and unambiguous.

The digital form of printed data brings along another important advantage – reading and conversion from paper back into an electronic form are 100% error free. Only two cases are possible: either data is successfully read or it is not read at all as in the case of CD disks.

PDMark can be used to store data on paper with the aim of reading them back efficiently in the process of automatic processing of documents. Using PDMark can eliminate the need for manual entering of data, which results in substantial savings in expenses.
